I.  MEMBERSHIP

     

It has been established that the service area for the J. K. Boyer Boyertown Community Library will be the Borough of Boyertown, Colebrookdale, Earl and Douglass-Berks Townships.

As a member of Berks County Public Libraries, standardized policies adopted and required by participants in ALIN (Advanced Library Information Network) will be adhered to by the J. K. Boyer Boyertown Community Library.

In order to become a member of the J. K. Boyer Boyertown Community Library the individual shall meet the requirements in the appropriate category.

A.  Adult Members - 15 years of age or older.

          

- The patron must fill out the registration card and show proof of a permanent address.
- One of the following are acceptable forms of identification:

                

driver’s license,
car registration,
checkbook, etc.

     

B.  Juvenile Members - 14 years of age or younger.

          

- The legal guardian of the child shall show proof of permanent address as listed above and sign the completed registration form for the child.
- No child under the age of 14 may be issued a library card without the signature of a legal guardian.

     

C.  Residents outside the service area are eligible for membership through Access PA.


II.  LIBRARY HOURS OF OPERATION

     

The J. K. Boyer Boyertown Community Library will be open to the public as specified on our home page.


III.  OVERDUE MATERIALS

     

Once a library patron has overdue library materials they will receive up to four computer generated notices. The Credit Bureau of Berks County will follow up after our four contacts.

If a patron:

          

- has an unpaid fine of $10.00 or over,
- ignores library notices, or
- fails to return materials

     

the librarian has the right to deny the patron borrowing or renewal privileges.

Until the fine is paid, borrowing privileges will not be extended to any other members of the patron’s family.


IV.  ACCESS PA

     

As an active member of the Access PA Program, the J. K. Boyer Boyertown Community Library will abide by and carry out all the policies and guidelines set up by the State Library of Pennsylvania.


V.  CHARGES FOR SERVICES, FINES, EQUIPMENT

     

A.  Photocopies and computer printouts

B.  Computer disks

          

- $1.00 donation

     

C.  Overdue Fines:

          

- Books, Periodicals, Cassettes - $.10 per day
- Videos - $.50 per day

     

D.  Maximum Overdue Fines

          

- Videos and ILL items - $10.00
- Hardcover books, Books on Tape, Music cassettes, Compact disks - $5.00
- Adult and YA Paperback books - $2.50
- Periodicals - $2.00

     

E.  No fines will be charged for overdue children’s materials (ILL items and Videos, excluded)

     

F.  Lost library cards - $2.00

          

Change of library card format (wallet or keychain) - $1.00

     

G.  Materials lost or damaged beyond repair

          

- charged at replacement value plus $5.00 processing fee.

     

H.  Replacement fees will not be returned. Patrons may keep material, if found, after library ownership has been deleted.


VI.  CIRCULATION POLICIES

     

Borrowers are responsible for returning material on time and in good condition.

A.  Length of Loans:

          

- 3 weeks - Books, Periodicals, Books on Tape
- 2 weeks - ILL (outside county) items
- 1 week - Videos and DVDs

     

B.  Number of items loaned:

          

- Two videos or DVDs per library card.
- A limit of 50 on other items borrowed.

     

C.  Renewals - All materials may be renewed once. Books on Hold/Reserve and videos are not renewable.

     

D.  Reserves - Reserved books will be held for the borrower for one week after notification by phone or mail.


VII.  INTERLIBRARY LOANS (ILL)

VIII.  BULLETIN BOARD

     

Only non-profit announcements of community interest will be permitted.


IX.  PATRON RECORDS

     

Patron records are strictly confidential.


X.  MATERIALS

     

All materials are accessible to all patrons, in accordance with the Library Bill of Rights.


XI.  GIFTS

     

Gifts will be accepted with the understanding that they be in accordance with the library’s policies and needs.


XII.  DRESS AND BEHAVIOR

     

Appropriate dress, footwear and behavior are expected.
