Contributions

Donations in any amount are always appreciated. In order to be eligible to receive state and federal funds, we must show that our local community supports us, so the funds you donate are multiplied many times over. You may choose to donate to the operating account to help with current expenses or give to the Capital Campaign, which will help pay for the recent expansion of the library building. Your contributions are tax-deductible.

Capital Campaign

Mifflin Community Library completed an expansion and renovation project when two new sections of the library were opened in March 2008. A capital campaign, begun in 2005, has raised $1.3 million of the $1.55 million cost of the expansion. For the full story of the expansion and capital campaign, click here: MCL Renovation Project

We are continuing to appeal to the public for donations to this project because we would like to pay off the present mortgage and once again own the building outright. This would allow future fundraising efforts to be funneled instead into resources such as books, computers, programming, books on CD, DVDs, etc. Monetary pledges and donations of every size are appreciated.

If you enjoy using this new facility, consider making a contribution to help pay off the building fund! Please send donations to: Mifflin Community Library, ATTN: Jane Althen, 6 Philadelphia Avenue, Shillington, PA 19607. Make the check out to Mifflin Community Library and write “Capital Campaign” in the Memo. If you’d like to spread your commitment out over several months or the next two years, please include a note, or stop by the MCL to pick up a Pledge Card.

There is also one Naming Opportunity left for our beautiful new Children’s Area. The cost for naming rights is $200,000.

Donation of Books and Other Items

Most of the year, we welcome your donation of items that fit the criteria in our guidelines (See donations guidelines). These donations help us expand our collection without spending a lot of money, and we love them! Occasionally, however, when we run short of processing time and storage space, we must put a temporary hold on accepting donations. When that happens, we will direct you to other organizations that accept such items or ask you to hold your donations for the Friends of the Library book sale.

Adopt - A - Book

Honor someone special and help to build the Mifflin Community Library collection by adopting a book, a video, a magazine subscription, or some compact discs. Your tax-deductable donation will be used to purchase items of your choice for the library.

A bookplate showing your name will be placed in each item. You may choose to dedicate the items to the memory of, or in the honor of someone special to you. This name will be shown on the bookplate according to your instructions.

If you are a member of a club or organization, adopting a book could be a group project, perhaps continuing from month-to-month or year-to-year.

Your gift makes a difference. Thank you!

Friends of the Library

Another great way to help the library is to join the Friends group, which can cost as little as $10. The Friends work on fundraising events to help the library. Some of their projects are an annual book and bake sale, bus trips, chicken BBQ sales, antiques appraisal fairs, and gift basket raffles. Since 1992, they have raised over $44,000 for the library’s operating and capital campaign funds. Please consider joining these dedicated library lovers, who meet every other month on the first Wednesday. Call the library at 610-777-3911 for more information.

Volunteering

We rely on our wonderful volunteers for everything from shelving materials to cleaning gutters to pulling weeds and watering plants. The largest group of volunteers works with the circulation desk staff, shelving returned materials and making phone calls about requested items that have arrived, among other tasks, but we need volunteers for repair and maintenance jobs also. And our newest volunteer need is for people who can help patrons with computer problems and tasks.

Whether you have only two hours twice a month or are available several times a week, we could use your help! For more information, call the library at 610-777-3911 and ask for our volunteer coordinator, Sharon Kleckner.
