Bethel-Tulpehocken Public Library

Our funding is constantly changing.

How funding is distributed is determined by a library's circulation, local effort, and computer usage.
State funding has been cut dramatically so there is less money available for the libraries to share. The Statewide Card was also cut by 100%. As a result Bethel-Tulpehocken Public Library's funding has been cut by close to 1/3rd.

Speak Up For Libraries!
Speak Up for Libraries! The PA General Assembly is hard at work coming up with a possible plan for fiscal year 2014-2015 by the required date of June 30.
Here are the facts from Glenn Miller, Executive Director of PaLA and a link to send e-mail.
It is important to boost literacy by rebuilding library services through a three-pronged approach:
Library Access: Increase by $2.9 million over current funding, up to a new total of $5.7 million. This increase would be targeted to: Restore about 50% funding for the Statewide Library Card (local library reimbursement program)—$2.3 million;Boost POWER Library (statewide online databases) by $500,000; and, Increase support for the Interlibrary Delivery Service by $100,000.Public Library Subsidy: Support Governor Corbett’s proposed $500,000 increase that will reach all local libraries.State Library of Pennsylvania, and Libraries for the Blind & Physically Disabled: Level funding—no further cuts—for this coming fiscal year in order to sustain current services and resources. This follows deep reductions in state support over the past six years, a period when Pennsylvania’s library community shared fully in the pain of budget cuts. Consider: Had state support remained flat since 2007-08 (not factoring in any increases for inflation), the cumulative value of lost library services due to budget cuts totals more than $162 million. Libraries have paid their dues! Please Take Action so that your state elected officials hear from you in a clear and civil but forceful manner that libraries need to be a priority in the next state budget. Tell them that the reimbursement for the Statewide Library Card, or a better-resourced POWER Library, or a stronger Interlibrary Delivery Service would have a positive impact on your services which, in turn, benefits their constituents.
