FAQ

How can I get a library card?
  • Come into the Spring Township Library and fill out an application card.
  • Library cards may be issued to any Berks County resident upon presentation of photo
    identification and current residence.
  • Children through age 17 must have a parent or guardian co-sign the application in order to receive a library card.

How can I renew an item?
There are three ways to renew library materials:
  1. In person: at the Circulation Desk
  2. Over the telephone: by calling the Circulation Desk at 610.373.9888.  Please have your library card and the titles of the items you wish to renew handy when you call.
  3. Through the library's online catalog located at www.berks.lib.pa.us/springtwp/:
  • On the Home Page, access the catalog by clicking on the card catalog icon as pictured to the right.
  • Access your account by typing in the barcode number on your library card with no spaces;
your pin number is the last 4 digits of your phone number.
  • Click on Items Out and check the box next to the item you wish to renew.
  • Click the Renew button.
  • Check the due date for each renewed item to verify that the renewal was successful.

Note: Items will not renew for you online if they are new, have been previously renewed on your account or if another patron has placed the item on hold.  If this happens to you, you may call the library during open hours to see if we can help.  Please have your library card number ready.

What if I lose my library card?
  • All patrons need to present their library card to use the library’s services; this includes computer use.  As a courtesy, the circulation staff is able to look up your record provided you present your current photo ID.  Recurrent use of this service may be revoked as a result of continued misplacement of your library card.  This is not only an issue of privacy but fairness to all patrons who must wait while we look up your record.  Please do not ask the staff to break this policy.

  • If your library card is lost or stolen, please notify the Circulation Desk as quickly as possible at 610.373.9888.  A replacement card will be issued upon presentation of a valid form of identification.  The missing card will be marked as lost to prevent its misuse by unauthorized persons.  There is a $2.00 fee to replace a lost or stolen card.

How many items may I check out at one time?
  • With your Berks County Public Libraries card, you may check out up to 50 items at one time.
  • Only 10 DVDs may be checked out on your card at any time.

calendar year before items may be borrowed in a new calendar year.  Payment plans may be
      available on an individual basis.

Where do I return borrowed library materials?
  • Library materials may be returned inside the library or in the library's book drop.  The book drop, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, is located on the left side of the front entrance to the library.  Most items may be placed in the book drop, including DVDs and CDs.  We ask that Reading Public Museum passes NOT be placed inside a book or in the book drop.  The museum pass must be returned to the Circulation Desk.
  • Items belonging to other Berks County Public Libraries may be returned to any library location, including the Spring Township Library.  A Berks County intra-library delivery service will get items back to their home library.

  • If you have placed an item on hold and Spring Township Library is not listed in the drop down menu, you have 3 choices:

1 - Choose one of the libraries that are listed in the drop down menu.  When you are notified

months from the date of arrival.

request to the item being available may be two months.
4 - Purchases are determined at the discretion of the Director

What if the item I'm looking for is not owned by any of the Berks County Public Libraries?
