FAQs

How many items may I check out at one time?

With your Berks County Public Libraries card, you may check out up to 50 items at one time. 10 DVDs may be checked out on your card at any time.

Suspended Borrowing/Renewal Privileges

Borrowing and renewal privileges may be denied to any patron who has unpaid fines or fees exceeding $10.00. In addition, all fines and fees must be paid in full by the end of each calendar year before before library privileges are available in a new calendar year. Payment plans may be available on an individual basis.

Where do I return borrowed library materials?

Library materials may be returned inside the library or in the library's book drop. Two book drops, which are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, are available for use. One is located on the left side of the front entrance to the library; the second is located to the right of the rear entrance to the library. Most items may be placed in the book drop, including DVDs and CDs. We ask that Reading Public Museum passes NOT be placed inside a book or in the book drop. The museum pass must be returned to the Circulation Desk.

Items belonging to other Berks County Public Libraries may be returned to any library location, including the Spring Township Library. A Berks County intra-library delivery service will get items back to their home library.

Why won't the computer let me pick up that new book/movie/music at my library?

When you place a new item on hold, the choices in the drop down menu are limited to the libraries which own the item. If you have placed an item on hold and Spring Township Library is not listed in the drop down menu, you have 3 choices:

1 - Choose one of the libraries that are listed in the drop down menu. When you are notified that it is available for pick-up, you will need to pick up the item at the chosen library.
2 - Wait for it to lose it's NEW status; newly purchased items are set to NEW status for six months from the date of arrival.
3 - Come in to the library or call and fill out a "Suggest a Book" form. If we choose to purchase the item, you will be first in line to receive it. Please be aware that the time frame from a request to the item being available may be two months. Purchases are determined at the discretion of the Director.

How will I know if something I suggested was purchased?

When you submit a "Suggest a Book" request, you may include your name and phone number so that a reserve can be placed for you on this item if the item is purchased. You will receive a notice, either by telephone or email, that the item is on hold for you at the Circulation Desk. If you have not included your personal information on the request form, no reserve will be placed, but you may check the online catalog or call the Circulation desk at 610.373.9888 after several weeks to see if this item has been added to the collection.

Can you email me to tell me when my items have arrived?

Yes! The Spring Township Library staff prefers to use email to notify patrons about items being held as well as overdue items. You will be notified by email if you have included your email address in your account information. To update your account information to include or change your email address, ask the next time you check out items at the Circulation Desk.

Does the library have computers and Internet access for the public?

Public access computers are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis at the Spring Township Library. All public computers, including 9 netbooks added in November of 2010*, are equipped with Microsoft Office 2007 and Internet access. You will need a library card and a completed Internet Use Agreement form to access the computers. Both cards can be obtained free at the Circulation Desk. The library also has wi-fi (wireless access) available 24/7. Patrons may bring in their laptops to gain access to this service. Due to liability concerns, staff is not able to assist patrons with their laptop computers.

*Netbooks funded with Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries

Do you offer computer classes?

Yes, we offer tutorials. Please call the library at 610.373.9888 to schedule a one-hour tutorial with a staff member.

Are there any job openings at the Spring Township Library?

The Director of the library accepts resumes (with three professional references) year-round. When a vacancy is created, the Director posts a notification in the library describing the position and calls those applicants who have already turned in a resume. Positions are rarely advertised in the newspaper since the library has a number of resumes on file. The Spring Township Library is an equal opportunity employer.
